Stablehands - Pakenham & Morphettville Opportunities

We have opportunities available for motivated and reliable stablehands with great horse handling skills and a love for horses at our established complex on course at Pakenham racecourse. Some of the tasks for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Brush and groom, feed, handle, and exercise horses, and lead them to their stables
  • Assemble, prepare, and store horse gear as directed
  • Clean and maintain stables and training equipment, preparing, and storing bedding
  • Loading and unloading horse walkers
  • Saddling horses for track work
  • Swimming horses
  • General stable duties (sweeping & cleaning)

We would prefer applicants to have experience working with horses as you may be required to handle young horses and colts. 

You will need to be physically fit enough to perform this work and be able to carry out instructions by being self motivated and proactive. You would also have your own vehicle and current drivers licence.

Hours of work:

  • MUST be available to work every 2nd Sunday (biweekly)

Additional shifts may be scheduled during the week based on availability and business needs

  • Monday to Saturday
  • AM shift - 3.30am to 9am (approximately)
  • PM shift - 1.30pm to 4.30pm (approximately)

Permanent & Casual Positions Available based on the Horse and Greyhound Training Award

Track Riders - Pakenham & Morphettville Opportunities

We are currently seeking experienced riders to join our team. The successful candidates must have previous horse experience and be able to work 6 mornings a week.

Track work experience is essential.

Your duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Follow an exercise training program laid out by the horse trainer
  • Walk, gallop and trot horses regularly, according to the training program
  • Make reports to the trainer on horses' progress and performance
  • Monitor horses' health and temperament and report signs of injury and illness

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • minimum of 2 Years riding experience as a Trackwork Rider / Jockey
  • Hold a Certificate IV In Racing (Jockey) OR Certificate III In Racing (Trackwork Rider)
  • Physically Fit
  • Hold a Current Australian Drivers Licence and have own vehicle
  • Ability to ride Timed Pacework and Gallops and Jump Outs
  • Ability to ride and educate young horses
  • Maintaining and caring for horses, including grooming and tacking up when required
  • Follow instructions from the Trainer and Management
  • Must be available to work 6 mornings per week (Monday to Saturday)
  • Passionate about horse riding and caring for horses
  • Reliable, Honest and Loyal with excellent communication skills
